The oasis cities around the Taklimakan desert have been cradles to many musical traditions, from the internationally-revered, monumental classical muqam to the much-cherished folk songs with distinctive regional flavour. In this gathering, we will discover a selection of both, notably including an abridged presentation of one of the muqams, while providing the necessary context for greater appreciation of these infectious songs.
